Worn With Purpose: Our Partnership with Help for Heroes

Some blazers are about looking the part. A few are about something more. When the Help for Heroes Cricket Team asked us to make their blazers, we knew immediately that this was a commission of the second kind — a blazer that carries a cause as well as a crest. Help for Heroes is the charity founded to support the men and women of the British Armed Forces who have been wounded or made ill by their service. Since 2009 they have helped tens of thousands of veterans and their families rebuild their lives, and the cricket team is one of the ways they do it: a squad built around recovery, camaraderie, and the simple, restorative business of playing the game together.

So when they came to us, the brief was never going to be just a jacket. It was a way for the team to wear their mission on their chest — and for every spectator at the match to see exactly who they were supporting.

We designed the Help for Heroes blazer in three vertical stripes: a vibrant light blue, a deep navy, and a warm terracotta — the colours of recovery, of service, and of the evening sun over a cricket square. Hand-embroidered on the breast is the team’s mark: a red cricketer in mid-stroke above the words Help for Heroes Cricket Team, stitched in clean white thread. It is a boating-style blazer in the old cricketing tradition — notched lapel, two-button front, cut to move — but it carries a meaning that no off-the-peg jacket ever could.

Every one of these blazers is produced with a portion of the proceeds going straight back to the charity. When you see the team lined up in their stripes, you are looking at more than a sponsor’s kit — you are looking at a walking appeal for a cause that matters.

Here is the part that matters as much as the cause: every Help for Heroes blazer is made to the wearer’s own measurements and cut. There is no unisex compromise, no S–M–L guessing, no settling for a jacket that fits the player next to you but not you. Whether the team orders six or sixty, each member is measured individually — chest, sleeve, body length, shoulder — and their blazer is cut to those numbers alone.

We produce male and female specific fits for the squad, so the blazer looks identical across the team in colour, stripe, and crest, yet sits properly on every body. A broader shoulder gets a broader shoulder. A narrower waist gets a narrower waist. The women on the team never again have to make do with a jacket cut for a man. It is the same commitment we bring to every bespoke commission — but here, worn in the colours of a charity, it feels especially right. The people Help for Heroes supports have already given enough. The least we can do is make sure the blazer they wear in their name actually fits them.

Our partnership with Help for Heroes is one of the things we are most proud of at Club Blazers. It takes what we do best — bespoke tailoring, made one piece at a time — and puts it in service of something larger than the garment. Every time the team takes the field in their stripes, every time a supporter spots that embroidered crest across a crowded marquee, the message travels a little further: that recovery is possible, that service is remembered, and that the cricket team is open to anyone who has earned their place.
